Townsend Consulting is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities and engaged the services of Walei Sabry, a Digital Accessibility Consultant, who performed an external evaluation, audited the site and made recommended changes. Alt-text was consistently added to images, heading structures were adjusted, links/button labels were enhanced, font sizes increased, color contrast enhancements were made and underlining was used only for links.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA. Townsendconsulting.org is partially conformant with WCAG 2.0 level AA, meaning that some parts of the site do not fully conform to the accessibility standard.

While testing, it was discovered that the sub-navigation links are not fully accessible to screen reader users. This includes the  clients sub-page under Projects. Because of the limitations of WIX, the platform used to create this site, it is not clear to screen reader users that a new link has appeared in the navigation when they select Projects. Because of this, the Client sub-page is linked to in the body of the Projects page.
